 Accord Engine Bay

Here is the engine bay for my 98 Honda Accord 4 cylinder. This picture is before any of my modifications. Below is a list of all the different parts. There are still many parts that are not labelled, as well as plenty of parts that I don't even know yet. Here's a basic run down starting from the left side of the picture.

  • Fuse Box - holds all the electrical fuses
  • Air Intake - sucks in air, then passes it to the resonator, then to the Air Filter Box
  • Air Filter Box - runs air through filter then passes it to the Intake Hose
  • Intake Hose - runs air to the Throttle Body
  • Throttle Body - controls the air flow (via the gas pedal) into the engine.
  • Battery - provides backup and start-up power for the engine and electrical accessories.
  • Anti-Freeze/Coolant Cap and Reservoir - Reservoir holds extra fluids for the Radiator. You can add anti-freeze to either of these as needed.
  • Radiator - After hot coolant is pumped through the engine to keep it running cool, it runs through the radiator which cools it off.
  • Valve Cover/Head - Covers the top of the engine and holds the valve, cam and spark plug parts.
  • Spark Plugs - provide sparks to the cylinders so that the fuel/air mixtures combusts and drives the engine.
  • Headers - Carry exhaust gasses out of the engine. Heat shield helps keep the engine bay cool by isolating the headers.
  • Alternator - is turned by the engine to generate electricity for powering car accessories and recharging the battery.
  • Brake Fluid - This is where you fill your brake fluid and make sure you have enough.
  • Windshield Fluid - This is where you fill your windshield washer fluid.
  • Dipstick - This is where you check your oil level.
  • Oil Cat - This is where you fill your oil.
  • Strut (Top) - This is the top of the strut/shock assembly that is part of your suspension. This is one of the strongest points on a car.
