The ancient pilgrimage route starting at Fuji Sengen Jinja, near the foot of Fuji-san, and leading up to the peak, is both fascinating and rewarding. Comparatively few people know about, and the JTB travel agents will even argue that nothing exists below the fifth station. It's almost as if they believe the mountain just floats in the sky. If you have time, it is a great way to explore Japan's old religion and culture, away from all of the modern fluff. Fuji isn't a pretty mountain to climb, but somehow the hike has been rewarding each year I've done it. It's best when done alone, without distraction. If you like snow-covered mountains, the Japanese Alps are stunning. We do quite a bit of winter mountaineering, and are training to do alpine climbing next year (using ropework and rock climbing to scale a mountain, as opposed to regular trails). Waking up on the side of a freezing mountain, with nothing but silence, white and distant peaks surrounding you, is one of life's true beauties. In my four years living here, those moments have been among the best I've had.

Dear Superior Scribbler: Sorry for the \"canned\" and unrelated nuarte of this comment, but I wanted to get to as many of you tonite as possible. One of the things that we at Scholastic Scribe are most proud of is the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes. Several of you are already familiar with the arbitrary and quite inane weekly attempt at humor...for you, and for those of you who have not yet played Sx3, I urge you to drop by Sunday to see what\'s up. Oh, and congrats on being named a SS. You earned it!
