Sausage Spaghetti Sauce

Take a look at your typical jar of spaghetti sauce and the number two ingredient is corn syrup. Take a look at a single serving (usually 1/2 cup) and it contains anywhere from 100-200 Calories. Make your own sauce, which is pretty easy, and you can cut the calories, fat and sodium in half while maintaining flavor and quality.

Personally, I like sausage in my sauce because it adds flavor and texture. Nowadays, Turkey Italian Sausage is pretty common in most grocery stores and is pretty tasty which being healthier than pork. Of course you can use any meat you like: hamburger, chicken, bratwurst, whatever you want. And you can change the veggies too. I like green peppers, but you could put in mushrooms or sun dried tomatoes or whatever you like.

You can change the chunkiness of the sauce by chopping the vegetables smaller, or if you want it smooth no matter what, you can use a stick blender to puree it, though I'd recommend adding any meat afterwards.

This is a big recipe since I usually make it for groups or freeze it to last me a week or two so feel free to halve it all. Generally speaking, there is enough for two boxes (2 pounds) of pasta, which is generally 16 servings.
