Well it turns out I have been assigned to a project in Milwaukee next week, which means I WON'T be able to be at home and I won't be able to receive the voucher. That was one thing that had me a little worried. Also, there were concerns from my company about me taking a two weeks of time off so soon after starting and I was informed that I needed to speak with my manager on Friday about the problem. So Thursday after work I was pretty anxious. I was trying to read The Practice of Holiness for small group. The study was on Joy and it was pretty hard to concentrate, but as I read there were two things that really touched me. First was a reminder that God will never give you more than you can handle. The second was that no matter what the circumstances, we should always go to God with thanksgiving. And so I stopped to pray and thank God for all that He's done for me and asked him to give me peace. I also meditated on the verse Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." I had to remember that everything is in God's hands. Well, by the end of the train ride I was a lot more at peace than before and was finally getting some of that Joy that the book was talking about. As I walked home, I saw something on my door. It was a FedEx sticker. My voucher had already arrived! That totally made my day and proved to me that God really does have everything in control. I had a great small group that night and thanks to God and thanks to my friends' prayers I had a good meeting with my manager on Friday and everything is working out. The other interesting thing is that I was talking about fasting last week. Well, I had decided to fast for a week between one small group and another. Well, with all this happening, it just reinforced my need to spend time fasting and focusing on God before my trip to Japan. So from Thursday midnight to next Thursday midnight I will only be drinking juice and broth. BTW, the actual dates that I'm going to Japan are 10/31-11/14 so I'm leaving next Sunday morning.
