Here's a copy of my newsletter while I'm in Japan. If you'd like to get this in e-mail, let me know. Hello everyone! After a 13 hour flight, I have safely arrived in Tokyo. After daylight savings (which Japan does not observe) the time here is 15 hours ahead, so while it is 6AM in Chicago, it is 9PM here. After an additional 3 hours on 3 train lines and a bus, I have arrived at John and Elaine Mehn's house. John is the director of the Church Plant Institute in Japan and is coordinating their annual conference which starts next week. More on that in a bit. Tomorrow (11/2) I will spend 4 hours on three more trains and head to Osaka to meet two non-Christian friends, Takako and Miyako, that I made when I came to Japan in 2002. I will spend two days with them catching up with them and seeing how they are doing as well as doing some touristy stuff with them. On 11/4 I will return to the Mehn's house in Tokyo and begin helping them with final preparations for the conference. Right now it sounds like I will be doing a lot of technical stuff (computers, powerpoint, video) as well as administrative stuff (paperwork, registration, general admin). During this week I will also meet two Christian friends, Miwa and Marie, from my previous trips in 2001 and 2002 to encourage them and see how they are doing in their walks. On 11/6 I will meet the rest of the 95 team members who come from St. Louis, Florida, New York and a other cities. On 11/7 we will be split up and sent to different churches. At the Niiza-shii church (which last year had a congregation of 10 people, including the pastor and children), I will be helping to lead worship and will be sharing my testimony. Afterwards, the groups will reunite and take a bus to the conference center where we will be serving for the rest of the week. The conference is for church planting pastors and missionaries (Japanese and foreigners) who are serving in Japan. It will be a time for them to be served by others and to have a chance to learn and grow in a community of fellow believers. Without this, many Japanese pastors and missionaries would burn out after years of leading such small congregations with extremely slow growth. Currently there are about 400 attendees registered, though there are still people signing up. Prayer Requests: Thanks very much for all your prayers. I'll try to send e-mail updates every few days. God bless! Posted 11/01/2004 05:01 PM in Uncategorized | Total Comments: (0) Link To This Blargh Comments
