In order to match the HVAC controls that
I changed to blue, I also wanted to change the green key ring to blue.
To do this, get under your steering wheel and remove the single screw
underneath. |
This loosens the bottom "collar"
for the steering column, but it is still snapped together with the
top collar in four spots. You should be able get your fingernails
into the joint and the bottom piece should snap off. Just do one side
first, then the other. |
It'll be easier to remove the bottom collar.
To do this, first pull down the lever that fastens the steering wheel
in position. Then you will be able to slide off the collar. |
You should loosen the top collar. It will
work better if you remove it completely, but if you just loosen it,
it will work fine. It is secured by two screws underneath the steering
column. Here is the first one. |
Here is the second one. Once both of these
are loosened, the top collar should be moveable.
At this time you should get all the way in your car and close the
doors so the key ring light turns off, otherwise it will be very hot. |
Now you can see the plastic key ring.
You should be able to grab it and wiggle it off the ignition. It will
be held on by a pair of wires for the light bulb. The bulb should
be off by now. Give it a few seconds to cool off.
If you hold the wires, you should be able to twist them and the light
bulb will unlock from the key ring. |
Remove the green condom on the light bulb
and replace it with a new colored condom of your choice. I used the
.2" blue ones, though I had to trim it a little, otherwise it
was too long. Slip it over the light bulb and replace the keyring.
Open the door to insure it works.
If it works, you can put everything back together. |
Now the keyring is done and shines in
an aqua/blue to match the HVAC controls. |
