Japan 10/31/2007 - Sushi in Tsukiji
For some of the best sushi in Japan, head to the shops inside Tsukiji Market and look for building 6. You will find Sushi Dai with a green awning and Daiwa Sushi with an orange awning just a few doors to the left.. Sushi Dai already had a long line when I found it at 9:00 and I waited 90 minutes for a seat starting at 9:30. Daiwa Sushi had a long line after 10:00. Both restaurants have the same hours as the market: 5:00AM - 2:00PM. |

Personally, I preferred Sushi Dai because I liked their Omakase menu (left), I liked their food more, they were a little nicer and they allowed me to take pictures. You can see a couple pics and other notes about Daiwa Sushi on the 11/10 page. As you can see it's a tight fit (center) and they place the food directly on the counter in front of you. While waiting for my food, I decided to take a pic of the line waiting outside (right). |

Look at that beautiful fish! |
Tamago Yaki - Japanese Egg Omelette. |
Their Miso Siru (soup) was excellent. |

Hime - Flounder, or is it Hirame - Fluke?
Information on Hirame from L2O |
Aji - Horse Mackeral.
Information on Aji, check out this blog entry from L2O, a new restaurant in Chicago. |
Sawara - Spanish Makeral |

Ikura - Salmon Roe, the best I ever had! Unlike American Ikura, this was tasty instead of salty. |
Anago - Sea Eel, the best I've ever had! I rarely get this in the US because it's not so good here. |
Conch - Even though it is dead, the act of cutting the ends to look like tentacles cause them to curl up making it look alive. |
Maguro - Tuna, the most tender (but not mushy) that I've ever had! |
Toro - Fatty Tuna, I think this was Chu-Toro, which isn't quite as exquisite as O-Toro. |
A selection Maki-Sushi (rolls) |
Uni - Sea Urchin, the second best I've ever had. In America Uni often tastes very fishy. Here it was very good and I liked it. The best I ever had was at a nice sushi restaurant in Tokyo a few years ago. |
